O
ne of the most ambitious video game titles to date. Mirror's Edge is a non-stop, heart-pounding 1st person parkor video game.

Set in an idyllic, perfect city under the ever watching eye of a totalitarian government. With communication heavily monitored, privacy comes at a premium. The only way to get your message across without someone eavesdropping is by hiring the underground version of Royal Mail; "Runners".

Our Heroin, Faith, is one such "Runner", rebelling against the corrupt government which has her sister captive and who was ultimately responsible for her parent's death.
M
irror's edge has a distinctive art style. The makers of Mirror's Edge tout that when you look at a screenshot for Mirror's Edge, you instantly realise that it is actually Mirror's Edge. This is mainly down to the game's striking blend of photo-realistic environments and equally striking primary colours with a little bit of orange thrown in for good measure.

Mirror's Edge looks to be a very promising game. From a technical stand point, the game is amazing. Using a new lighting engine that not only casts realistic shadows, but also realistically reflects light and colour. The chasm between reality and games are becoming much, much smaller.

The possibilities in Mirror's Edge are seemingly limitless. With skill and pace, you can get almost anywhere in the game. Although you'd like to think you could run around the entire city on offer
in Mirror's Edge, you may be a little disappointed
with the actual size of the playable area. But don't
get confused, Mirror's Edge is a stunningly
massive game.

Freedom seems to be a main focus for
DICE as they created this game. With
several ways to complete levels, you'll be
Exploring all that Mirror's Edge has to offer
for much time after you complete the initial
story mode. There'll also be hidden goodies
for the player to find.
If you're not so adventurous, there's always
Runner Vision to show you items you can
use to advance in the level.

It seems the only complaint that could be
brought against DICE's little baby is that
the game will be very complicated. Games
such as Assassin's Creed and Hitman suffer from the same mental block which the end-user will have. Momentum in the game is vital, having no HUD to tell you how much momentum you have, it will be rather difficult to judge how much speed you have and if it'll carry you the distance you need to jump.
The game has an emphesis on exploration and adventure, while you can go around beating up enemies, shooting guns and perhaps throwing people off buildings, you'll find that these are all on the back-burner. Faith isn't your tough, macho ex-military type. Shoot-outs wont end well for the player, using what advantage you have (running) is for the best.

In closing, Mirror's Edge looks to be a good game, maybe even the best game of 2008. However, it has a lot to prove, trailers and screenshots are one thing, how a the public plays will be the ultimate test for Mirror's Edge. Check out the demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Network Store later this year.
Lookin' Good!
